5 Steps to building an SEO strategy

Updated: Nov 10, 2023

All businesses want to be on the first pages of search engines. SEO – Search Engine Optimization – has become a rage for those who have put their business in the digital world. Not for nothing. Everyone searches all the time. On the other hand, not all entrepreneurs have a marketing budget that can “test” keywords that work for their business, in a paid way on Google Ads.

In this article, I will bring some experiences and theories about SEO and how we have helped small entrepreneurs, startups and companies to rank better on Google.

How does Google work? How does it find pages and websites?

Google is programmed to find terms, words and phrases and its system crawls the internet to find relevant content for the user. Year after year, Google evolves its intelligence system to make the search faster and find the user's objective.

According to Google itself, around 15% of new searches for words and terms are searched daily. In other words, they are unprecedented. This means that the work of evolving an SEO project does not happen overnight and needs continuous monitoring.

How to start an SEO strategy

Initially, to list the best words for your company you need to carry out an SEO audit. This means tracking your pages and checking how you rank on Google and with what words or terms.

2. Identify your business terms and words

Many clients come to us with an SEO project, but they haven't even stopped to think about this step, which is extremely important for starting a digital business. Some companies end up wasting investment in Google Ads campaigns because they didn't stop to take this first step. Therefore, you should carry out a search for terms and/or phrases that can contribute to an improved ranking.

3. Writing for SEO

In another blog, we mentioned the importance of content, which will continue to be an even stronger trend for 2022. Both in B2B and B2C. Therefore, your content must contain words and terms that you have identified as the main ones. Blogs, posts, articles, releases must be written in a way that contains the most important terms.

One point to consider is maintaining the semantics of these contents. There’s no point writing with repetitive terms thinking it will rank better. This may even happen at first, however, your site may be penalized and go offline. Therefore, what you write on your channels must be relevant and make sense for what you offer your customer.

4. Keep an eye on the competition's SEO

When we talk about an organic project, that is, digital marketing work with SEO, we must also know how the competition behaves. Finding terms similar to those of your competitors can help improve your position in searches, and thus gain positions.

And you should think about the following: just as your SEO monitoring work is continuous, so is your competition's. Therefore, having reports and analyzing the market, in an increasingly dynamic digital world, must be part of the process.

5. On-Page SEO

This term means making internal links to your content, which can direct to your blog, your services page, your social networks and so on. Therefore, writing referring to the contents of your own website or channels helps with search engine rankings.
